“We have repeatedly emphasized the serious, for the safe movement of users, issue of the absence of an internal door in a large portion of elevators”, P.E.T.A.K. states, among other things, in a statement.
The Panhellenic Association of Elevator and Escalator Technology (P.E.T.A.K.) submits proposals for maximum safety in elevator use.
As noted in a press release from the association: “Following the accident that took place in a building elevator in Serres, with a 26-year-old passenger tragically dying while transporting household equipment, we would first and foremost like to express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of our young fellow man”.
P.E.T.A.K. adds: “… We have repeatedly highlighted the serious, for the safe movement of users, issue of the absence of an internal door in a large portion of lifts. Unfortunately, our country is still the exception to the European situation where the internal door in elevators is an integral part and a necessary condition for their installation. Despite our multiple complaints to the State, it has not been possible to enforce with relevant legislation the installation of an internal door in all, without exception, the elevators, as a result of which frequent accidents occur which, as in this case, are fatal for the life of the passenger .
P.E.T.A.K. as part of its institutional role, it makes great efforts to improve the safety of elevator passengers. Our proposals are many and can be summarized in two actions:
1) Mandatory installation of an internal door on all elevators carrying passengers, regardless of size, volume, dimension, age, type, etc.
2) Certification of all elevators in the Greek territory in accordance with the provisions of the relevant legislation and the imposition of severe fines on those who do not comply with it”.
Finally, P.E.T.A.K. notes that “… on the occasion of the tragic and unjust death of the young passenger, we wish to assure the passenger public that we will continue to make every effort and exert every possible pressure, within the limits of our institutional role, on every competent agency in order to to eliminate the possibility of a repetition of a similar event”.
