Fires in Greece: 41 fire fronts in one day- The fire in Corfu subsides, in places rekindling in Konitsa

Most of the fires in the country today were dealt with immediately, at their initial stage.

The fire that broke out earlier in Corfu is in remission, while no active front but only a few flare-ups are recorded in the fire in Konitsa according to the Fire Department.

At the same time, 41 fires broke out within 24 hours in our country.

Most were treated immediately, at their initial stage.

The fire that broke out today at noon in a forest area in Lefkimmi, Corfu, is under control and 30 firefighters with a group of pedestrians, 9 vehicles, two aircraft and a helicopter are working.

Membership is provided by volunteer firefighters and water carriers of the local government.
Local investigative offices, as well as Divisions of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.

It is recalled that, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr), for tomorrow, Monday, August 8, 2022, a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted for the following areas:

Region of Attica
Region of Central Greece (Evia)
Peloponnese Region (Corinthia Region, Argolis Region)
Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Evros PE, Thassos PE)
The personnel of the Fire Services of the above Regional Units remain on partial alert, in order to deal with the increased service demands, which may arise due to a very high risk of fire (risk category 4).

In direct cooperation with the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, all relevant government agencies involved, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above regions, have been informed, so that they are on increased readiness to take measures within their competence.
