“As the director of the Eugenides Planetarium, he left a great legacy of contribution through his leadership contribution to astronomical education in our country,” says the Rector of Metsovius about the astrophysicist.

A message about the loss of astrophysicist Dionysis Simopoulos was sent by the Rector of the National Technical University Andreas G. Boudouvis.

“Dionysis Simopoulos was an important, multifaceted personality. As director of the Eugenides Planetarium, he left a great legacy of contribution through his leading contribution to astronomical education in our country.

His ability to make complex, but broadly interesting, astronomical topics comprehensible to the general public and the prestige his eloquent public speaking had acquired were underpinned by his scientific proficiency and overall outstanding constitution.

My acquaintance with my compatriot by origin was important for my cultivation as an educator. Heartfelt condolences to his family as well as to the Eugenides Foundation for the loss of its outstanding scientific leader.”
