Staff at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden discovered the mother, 23-year-old Bibi, was pregnant around April Fools’ Day. The fact came as a surprise because she was taking contraceptives.
“Bibi and the baby, who does not yet have a name, will spend the next two weeks away from zoo visitors,” Gorsuch said.
Bibi’s first baby, Fiona, weighed just 13kg when she was born prematurely and could not walk. She now weighs 907 kilograms, said the zoo, which has seen a surge in visitors and views on social media since Fiona’s birth.
