The renovation works of the green spaces in the center of the road axes of Attica continue at a rapid pace, which are part of the overall planning of the Attica Region for the aesthetic, environmental and road upgrading of the metropolitan infrastructure.
In this context, the complete aesthetic and environmental transformation of L. Syngrou was completed, with the impressive planting of 300 palm trees on the central islet, from the height of the Pantheon University to the Faliriko Delta.
The choice of this particular species of palm tree was made, as it is the appropriate one for the particularly warm temperatures recorded in the area and is not easily affected by the disease that eats up those palm trees that have remained in L. Syngrou and elsewhere, from previous years.
It is noted that in the planning of the Region for the holistic interventions in the green areas, the continuous care for the protection and maintenance of the greenery and the trees is included, as the daily care of the plants is foreseen, along the entire length of the road network under the responsibility of the Region. with the development of an irrigation system and daily tasks, such as pruning, cleaning, etc.
It is recalled that holistic operations have already been carried out on Posidonos Street, Kifisias Street, Athens Street, Vasilissis Sofia Street, Petrou Ralli Street and Grigoriou Lambraki Street.
The Regional Governor of Attica, G. Patoulis, referring to this, points out:
“The protection and promotion of all the green spaces that beautify our Attica and breathe life into its citizens is imperative. The threat of climate change and the trials of wildfires are testing the resilience of the ecosystem and the state. With all our strength we seek, with planning and with the guidance of the authorities, to protect and strengthen every green cell. As the Region of Attica, to the extent of our competences, we are implementing a promising plan to upgrade the metropolitan infrastructure of our Attica, in which an important place, along with the upgrading of the road network, is occupied by the holistic interventions in the green spaces on road axes of our competence. As we had promised, we are changing the face of our Attica, highlighting its beauties”.
The specific initiative of the Region of Attica was carried out after the announcement of an electronic public tender, with the object of “Supply and planting of palm trees on L. Syngrou” and the total budget of the contract amounts to 153,313 euros.
