Latest weapon systems technology and innovative defense applications they “stole” the extra time in this year’s military parade in the city of Thessaloniki for the anniversary of October 28.
For the first time, weapon systems from the Department of Innovation were presented and New Weapon Systemsan initiative that is part of the “Agenda 2030” of the Ministry of National Defense and the new Doctrine of Deterrence of the Armed Forces of Greece.
The systems make up the “Shield of Achilles”, a comprehensive protection dome with multiple layers of defense where cutting-edge technology meets military operational experience.
Unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous maritime vehicles, surveillance, communications and network-centric control systems are at the cutting edge of a dynamic transformation that is leading the Armed Forces into the new era.
As the Minister of National Defense has emphasized Nikos Dendias, “with Agenda 2030 as a road map of deep reform, the New Force Structure, the 12-year Long-term Defense Equipment Planning and the introduction of cutting-edge technologies, we are building the most powerful and modern Armed Forces in the history of New Greece”.
The presence of the Department of Innovation at the parade, ministry sources point out, is not just a demonstration of new systems, but a practical confirmation of the strategic transition of the Armed Forces to a new era of technological autonomy, operational flexibility and national self-confidence.
Specifically, the parade was attended by unmanned aerial vehicle “HERON”, which is used to monitor the borders of our country.
It has an autonomy that exceeds forty hours and the ability to fly at heights of more than thirty thousand feet.
HERON can cover distances of more than 350 km, offering real-time imaging.
Also, the public had the opportunity to see her up close crossing four, of American origin, Armored Reconnaissance Vehicles M1117which recently joined the Greek Army.
These vehicles carry electronic sensors that were designed and manufactured exclusively by the 306th Base Plant of the Army. They have a high-definition camera and a Drone System and are autonomous surveillance systems, which have the ability to transmit the image in real time to the Operations Centers.
In addition, it was carried out platoon crossing of the weapon system SPIKE NLOS (Non Line of Sight).
It is a new precision missile system, multi-role, capable of hitting targets up to 32 kilometers away.
The missiles have recently joined the Army. Part of the system is the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System ORBITERwhich can identify targets at a depth of up to 50 kilometers, transmitting image and firing data, in real time.
The “Centaur” system» this was also involved drawing attention. It is an anti-drone system that has the ability to detect and neutralize enemy drones through electronic interference. It is the result of the cooperation of the Hellenic Defense Innovation Center and the Hellenic Aviation Industry.
It has already been installed on Navy frigates operating in the Red Sea, as part of Operation Shields, with excellent results.
Yet, were presented to the audience that either gave the “attendance” or watched the parade on television:
- The detection system and drone neutralization “Uperion” which is, essentially, the evolution of “Centaur”. It is in advanced testing stage by the Hellenic Aviation Industry. It has the ability to automatically detect and neutralize, through jamming, attacking drones, providing 360 degree coverage to our Units.
- The unmanned aerial vehicle S-100, a state-of-the-art drone which is included in the equipment of the new frigates Belharra (FDI HN). It has the ability to detect, identify and target potential threats accurately and without operator intervention at a depth of up to 100 kilometers.
- The unmanned system “Archytas” aircraft“, a product of cooperation between the School of Naval Cadets, the School of Electrical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens and companies from the private sector of our country. It has the ability to land and take off vertically so that it can operate both from land and from warships. The maximum flight height approaches 5,000 meters while its autonomy reaches 2 hours. It can undertake long-range reconnaissance and surveillance missions. It already participates in Navy frigate exercises and operations, both inside and outside Greek territory.
- Unmanned Aircraft “A900»: They are unmanned helicopters used by Navy ships. Equipped with an electro-optical system of modern technology, they provide, in live transmission, a clear impression of the surface, at a depth of 30 kilometers.
- Underwater scooter “Rotinor: Underwater diver support vehicle used in special diving missions. It is used by the Submarine Destroyers for invisible, silent, and high-speed penetration into the area of operations.
- VTR speedboat: It is an Unmanned Fast Surface Vessel of the Special Warfare Command. It has been developed by the Center for Research, Technological Development and Innovation of the Armed Forces. It is a combination of an operational speed boat of the Greek Special Forces and an autonomous navigation system with the ability to detect and avoid obstacles. Its mission is the surveillance and observation of maritime targets, through thermal cameras, reconnaissance radar and satellite.
- Robot EOD Engineer: Two utility vehicles carrying three robotic IED disposal systems. They enable remote bomb disposal without requiring personnel to approach the site.
- V-BAT: Four “V – BAT” Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems. It is one of the world’s few Drone systems, with the possibility of vertical take-off/landing, which increases the flexibility of use. The flight autonomy of the system makes it capable of monitoring at a depth of 200 km and for a long time. It undertakes surveillance-reconnaissance and targeting missions, while also participating in search-rescue operations.
Additionally, in the Armed Forces Autonomous Unmanned Aircraft Production Units are included. Manufactured by the 306 Technician Base Factory, they have modern equipment and 3D printing devices to produce drone parts on the battlefield. They can produce up to 1,000 Type 1 FPV (First Person View) drones per year and provide technical support to Units using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
They also include Mobile Command and Control Stationan autonomous Business Control Center. Equipped with modern means of communication and digital applications, it transmits in real time the image of the battlefield as well as the Mobile Communications Station “Metoikos”. It is an autonomous and flexible communications hub, designed and assembled by the Air Force Telecommunications and Electronic Media Factory. It is a state-of-the-art telecommunications system of high operational value, capable of restoring or augmenting communications in any environment and under any conditions.
In the same direction, the “Deucalion” regular natural disaster response station has been developed. It is a Mobile Operations Center designed to direct and coordinate natural and technological disaster response operations. Equipped with modern telecommunication systems, “Deucalion” provides the possibility of communication with the land, sea and air means of the Armed Forces and civil protection. It has Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and a thermal and visual observation camera.
Finally, the news state-of-the-art Fighter Suitwith which its executives made their appearance School of Hopepull them out looks at the parade.
