Korydallos Prisons: The contract was signed for the relocation to Aspropyrgos – What areas does the project include

In the most critical phase for the final stretch, the big one enters project of the relocation of the Korydallos Reservation Store in Aspropyrgosas the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Lefteris Oikonomou, signed today a contract with the mandated advisor of TAIPED, Panagiotis Stampoulidis, in the presence of the General Secretary of Anti-Crime Policy, Konstantinos Papathanasiou and officials of TAIPED, in order to proceed immediately with the implementation process, with the Public Private Partnership (PPP) method.

The Agreement provides that the TAIPED will undertake to carry out all the actions for the maturation of the project, the carrying out of the process of its assignment, on behalf of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, to a contractor financial body that will be selected in accordance with the current legislation, as and monitoring the execution of the contract to be concluded between the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the contractor for the implementation of the project.

The project is planned to be implemented using the Public Private Partnership (PPP) method. The initial budget for the construction of the new Penitentiary amounts to 130 million euros excluding VAT and is estimated to only concern the initially pre-estimated construction costs of the facilities, without including equipment, operation and maintenance costs.

According to the original planning, the new building facilities will be developed on an area of ​​approximately 100 acres and will include 14 wings, with a capacity of 200 people each. They will also includehospital infrastructure, psychiatric ward, therapeutic program areas, courtrooms, school education wards, gymnasium, library, disciplinary cells, laboratories, while provision is also made for places of worship.

The relocation of the Korydallos detention center has been approved by the Government Committee for Contracts of Strategic Importance with the decision of December 27, 2021 and has been included in the Development Program for Contracts of Strategic Importance of Law 4799/2021.

The Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Eleftherios Oikonomou, said: “Another government announcement for a project of emblematic importance begins to be implemented with today’s sealing of the cooperation of the Ministry of Citizen Protection with TAIPED. Its strategic project relocation of the Korydallos Reservation Store to White tower, is going to formulate a new prison policy for the country and create suitable conditions for the accommodation of prisoners in prisons, based on European and international standards. Our Ministry, with the help of TAIPED, is already proceeding with the maturation of the Project, the first step of which is its inclusion in the PPP law and the start of the tendering process”.

The Authorized Advisor of TAIPED, Panagiotis Stamboulidis, said: “It is a great responsibility that the Strategic Importance Contracts Unit of TAIPED undertakes to carry out the project of strategic importance, as it has been characterized by the competent Government Committee, the relocation of the Reservation Store Korydallou.
