More than 100 firefighters are working on the scene – The fire is burning a forest area and has threatened the village of Petroto.
Throughout the night, strong firefighting forces fight the flames in the area of Petrotos, Fthiotida, as the fire that started in the early hours of Tuesday morning has developed several fronts helped by the strong winds.
The fire is burning a forest area and has threatened the village of Petroto. Firefighters prevented the extension to the residential area, while ground and air means since the morning are trying to limit its destructive course.
The strong winds that are blowing have made the efforts of the fire brigade particularly difficult, while at the moment it is moving west and north, i.e. towards the borders of Fthiotida and Larissa.
According to an announcement by the Fire Department, 52 firefighters with 2 groups of pedestrian units, 16 vehicles are operating at the scene, while 11 aircraft and 3 helicopters were operating until late afternoon, one of which was for aerial coordination. Assistance is provided by volunteer firefighters as well as water tankers and project machinery of the Local Self-Government.
Also, 54 firefighters with 2 groups of pedestrian departments and 21 vehicles from different regions of the country go to the area, and in particular:
– 10 firefighters with 5 vehicles from Central Macedonia
– 16 firefighters with one (1) pedestrian section team and 5 vehicles from Western Macedonia,
– 10 firefighters with 5 vehicles from Epirus and
– 18 firefighters with one (1) pedestrian section team and 6 vehicles from Thessaly.
