He added, however, that the event is isolated and he himself did not know it as he was not on the island and was informed by the media about the situation. He also stated that whoever is responsible should not let such an event happen again.

The Municipality announced yesterday that it cannot intervene in the situation and that there is a competent committee for this matter.
For its part, the Committee for Model Tourist Utilization and Protection of the Zakynthos Shipwreck reports that the collection of waste does not fall under its competences and remains the responsibility of the Municipal Authority.
