The city, which will be 170 kilometers long and 200 meters wide, is expected to house nine million people

Plans for “THE LINE”, the first vertical car-free city, have been released by Saudi Arabia. At the same time, a video was released about the design of this city, a skyscraper covered in reflective surfaces, 500 meters high, which is intended to become a shelter for nine million people.

The project for the straight-line city, which will be 170 kilometers long and 200 meters wide, was launched by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and is described as “a revolution in culture”. Its land footprint is only 34 square kilometers and it will house nine million people who will live in neighborhoods where all daily needs can be reached on foot within five minutes. The city’s infrastructure will make it possible to get from one end of the city to the other within 20 minutes, meaning no cars are required.

“The Line” is designed as part of the initiative Neom and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 drive to diversify its economy and become less dependent on crude oil.
