THE John Legend said that the Donald Trump is the reason why he is no longer close friends with him Kanye West.
The singer-songwriter revealed in a new interview that their differences in politics proved too much to keep their friendship strong after years of creative collaboration.
John Legend said on ‘The Ax Files’ podcast: ‘Kanye and I are not as friends as we used to be. I honestly think that because we disagreed publicly about him running for president, supporting Trump, we couldn’t maintain our friendship.”
West was one of the producers on Legend’s 2004 debut album Get Lifted and released the record on his own GOOD Music label. The two artists have collaborated many times.
John Legend added that he couldn’t support West’s 2020 bid for the US presidency: “I wasn’t alone in that, but, you know, he wasn’t happy about it. And we really haven’t been close since then.”
The musician added, however, that he still respects Kanye West and admires his honesty. “I think he’s been very open about his struggles with mental health issues,” Legend continued. “And he’s very real, honestly. So I think there’s not a lot that people don’t understand about him.”
