The Holy Church of St. John the Russian in Neo Prokopio, Evia, receives visitors from every corner of Greece but also from neighboring countries, which functions as a place of pilgrimage, under the direct supervision of the Holy Metropolis of Chalkidos. The holy relic of the saint was transferred to Neo Prokopio in Evia in 1924 and was initially placed in the Holy Church of the village, the one honored in the name of Saints Constantine and Helen.

Saint John the Russian, as a faithful servant of God, has received the gift of miracle-working and is therefore rightly considered by the faithful: protector of the poor and the grieving, a harbor that protects from the dangers of the salty and stormy sea of ​​this life, salvation in calamities, a river of gifts inexhaustible, a fountain of benefits and a source of healings everlasting. Of his many miracles, only a few are mentioned in the present work, but they are capable of inspiring and moving the lips to praise “…may I heal you, and I will praise you and worship you and magnify you, Holy One, works that are divine”.

According to what is mentioned in the book of the Venerable Metropolitan of Chalkida Chrysostomos, entitled “Holy John the Russian, the multi-athlete and champion of patience”, in 1962 from a simple pilgrimage Church that was, with the unanimous opinion of the Church and the State, a law was signed based on which operates as a “Fair Foundation”, with purposes defined in its operation and management provision. Also in 1977, a guest house was founded and inaugurated in 1989, by the late Metropolitan of Halkidos, Mr. Chrysostomos I (Vergi). It has a capacity of 160 beds and includes, in addition to the bedrooms and lecture and conference rooms, a Museum, dining rooms, etc. auxiliary spaces.

Until today, among other things, it has hosted Priestly Conferences, Pan-Orthodox Conferences, held under the auspices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece to deal with sects and para-religious groups, as well as liturgical symposia and events. According to data from the above book, the homeland of St. John the Russian is Ukraine, and the most likely date of his birth is the year 1690. St. John is also noted, “he is a wonderful example of the “in God” life of people, because he reveals with his miracles, the divine power and guides us to mentally know a truly holy life, beneficial for man”. The pilgrim, leaving the Holy Pilgrimage of Saint John, returns “to the familiar” renewed and transformed, like the holy Apostles from Mount Tabor, to continue with new forces the invisible war in the everyday asphalt reality and to have with the embassies of the holy victorious outcome, the Holy Metropolis of Chalkidos also emphasizes.
