August 15th with storms and hail – The phenomena will occur during the midday and afternoon hours

The weather will be unstable in a large part of our country and today, the third consecutive day of weather instability, which, according to the prognostic data of the National Observatory of Athens-Meteo.gr, will continue until Monday 15/8.

The phenomena will manifest themselves in the midday and afternoon hours mainly in the continental parts, nevertheless due to the summer vacation period, special care should be given to marine activities, since the rains and local storms will be temporarily accompanied by strong winds (burinia) in the areas mainly of the North Aegean (Halkidiki, North-East Aegean islands, Sporades) and the Ionian.

On Saturday, according to the latest prognostic data of the National Observatory of Athens-Meteo.gr, initially local rains are expected in Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, Central and Western Continent and Ionia, which will intensify in the midday and afternoon hours and there will also be local storms mainly in the rest of the central and northern mainland and possibly in the mountains of Crete. The phenomena may be intense in places and will be accompanied by hail mainly in the northern continental parts and in the Central Ionian Sea.

The phenomena from the evening hours will temporarily stop in the greater part of the mainland, however they will continue locally in areas of Macedonia, Thessaly and possibly the Northern Aegean, while from the early hours of Sunday morning storms will affect the Northern Ionian, Epirus and Macedonia.

Finally, despite the improvement that the fire-meteorological indicators will present, special attention should be paid to the continental areas where the phenomena will manifest, since there will be intense electrical activity, resulting in the risk of forest fires from lightning strikes.
