Activation of the Copernicus Service for the immediate mapping of Thassos

The request was accepted by the European Union and the availability of a series of cartographic data and products resulting from the analysis of satellite images is expected immediately.

At the behest of the General Secretary of Civil Protection, the Planning and Emergency Management Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, as the National Contact Point, activated the Service Copernicus/Emergency Management Service – Mapping (activation code EMSR624) of the European Union.

The purpose of the activation is the production of cartographic products and data for the area of ​​the island of Thassos, which was affected by a fire that occurred on Wednesday, August 10, to assist the work of the agencies involved in dealing with emergencies and managing the consequences of the phenomenon.

The request was accepted by the European Union and the availability of a series of cartographic data and products resulting from the analysis of satellite images is expected immediately.

The data and maps of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service/Mapping Service will be made available directly by the Planning and Emergency Response Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection to all involved bodies free of charge for the management of their project.
