“Giant squid washed up on Scarborough Beach this morning. Where is Moby Dick?” tweeted the man who found the squid dead on Cape Town beach
Amazed, the internet has been following the images of a giant squid that washed up dead on a beach in Cape Town for a few hours now.
This is the second squid of a similar size to be found in the wider area after, as reported in the Independent, another was spotted a few months earlier within a 6 mile radius a few months earlier.

“Giant squid washed up on Scarborough Beach this morning. Where is Moby Dick?” tweeted Tim Dee, who found it dead on Scarborough Beach on Tuesday, posting photos and videos.
A marine biologist who was at the scene is seen in the video pulling away the flesh of the giant squid to reveal its large beak which it uses to cut its food into small pieces and eat.
The video also shows his fist-sized eye.
Larger eyes in molluscs can detect light better and therefore help them perceive bioluminescent light, which is difficult to detect in the deep ocean.
