The complaint was submitted to the Riga Feraio Police Department, with the prosecutor of the Volos First Instance Service ordering the formation of a case file and conducting an urgent preliminary investigation. As part of the preliminary investigation, it will be investigated whether the 40-year-old committed the criminal acts of sexual indecency and the abuse of a minor involving sexual gestures on a minor entrusted to his care. Both offenses are misdemeanors, while the possibility cannot be ruled out that in the event that aggravating evidence against the man emerges during the preliminary investigation, the charge may be upgraded to felony.
The complaint was submitted about a month ago, specifically around the end of July. Two young girls of American citizenship were hosted in a house in the Municipality of Riga Feraios, as part of an exchange of visits. According to information, it is a program of the US Federal Government to introduce its citizens to citizens of other countries and cultures. Both the alleged victim of the harassment and another female of her same age lived in a Greek woman’s house with her family.
According to the complaint, one night and while the girl was sleeping, the 40-year-old father of her Greek friend entered the room approaching her bed. The young woman woke up suddenly having a strange feeling and she was surprised to see that the man had taken his penis out of his underwear and was rubbing it on her legs. She was horrified and started screaming, then informed the other American woman about what had happened. They took their things in the middle of the night and left, finding in the meantime accommodation in another house. They reported the alleged incident to the Greek and American program managers. Her compatriot claimed that she did not perceive anything, except that she heard the voices of the 17-year-old, who later described to her what had happened.
The man was not arrested as part of the spontaneous procedure, as the program managers and the girl went to the Police after 24 hours, while now the 17-year-old girls have left Magnesia.
In the context of the preliminary, the conduct of which was assigned to A.T. Riga Feraiu, the people in charge of the program will be called to testify, with the 40-year-old going to apologize by proposing witnesses in his defense, in order to refute the charge.
