The image of Attica has already started to change and the main arteries of the capital now have new lighting
The work to upgrade the lighting on the main road axes of Attica is progressing rapidly, with the replacement of the old energy-consuming lamps with modern low-consumption and high-efficiency LED lamps.
The image of Attica has already started to change and the most central roads now have new lighting such as: Syggrou St., Poseidonos St., Vouliagmenis St., Amalia St., Vasilissis Sofia St., Kifisias St. , Piraeus, Petrou Ralli Avenue, Varis – Koropiou Avenue, Athens – Souniou Avenue, Athens Avenue and the Athens – Corinth National Highway.
It is estimated that by the end of the year, all the central roads of Attica will have LED lighting.
The project, which is part of the strategic planning of the Region of Attica for the aesthetic, environmental and road upgrading of the metropolitan infrastructure of Attica, concerns the installation of 23,790 LED lights on the most important avenues of Attica with a total budget of 36.9 million euros, with funding from the Region, through of the Regional Operational Program Attica 2014-2021.
The Regional Governor of Attica G. Patoulis reports in this regard:
“We are realizing our strategic goal of an energetically and environmentally upgraded road network, which will operate safely for every user. Taking into account the data available from the competent services of the Region and of course the Traffic, we implement extensive interventions throughout the road network under our responsibility. The replacement of the old type of lighting is an intervention which, in combination with the new asphalt pavements, the upgrading of the parapets, the pedestrian crossings and the use of innovative applications to limit the speed, increases the safety levels on the roads, especially during night hours, a fact that will soon be measurable in the relevant indicators for road accidents”.
The new led lighting is more energy and environmentally friendly
The new lighting of the road arteries effectively contributes to the upgrading of road safety as visibility is significantly improved during nighttime driving, while at the same time it is more environmentally friendly, with a low energy footprint and recyclable materials.
The lamps are fully controlled through a remote management system, which means that data can be obtained in real time regarding their status (operation – consumption). Also, the new lighting bodies with new led technology have a nominal power of 42 watts, compared to the 400 watts of the old ones, and they work seamlessly for about 100,000 hours, i.e. for 7 years, while the old ones needed to change bulbs every year.
At the same time, according to the calculations of the authorities, with the use of the new lights, more than 1.5 million euros can be saved on an annual basis, money which can be used for other needs for the benefit of the citizens.
