In 1985, the movie Back To The Future made a DMC DeLorean… a time machine and a trademark of industrial design. Now DMC is going back to the future.

We are trembling(?) Tesla. The legendary company DeLorean returns (in the future) with the Alpha5, an electric car!

In the 80s, the iconic Back To The Future movies made a DMC DeLorean… a time machine and a trademark of industrial design.

Almost four decades later, the company that now bears the name DeLorean is preparing to launch a long-awaited electric vehicle, with the signature wing doors of the original model.

“The Alpha5 represents the last 40 years of DeLorean,” said Chief Marketing Officer Troy Bijt. “There was this huge responsibility to make sure we honored the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even bigger responsibility to curate its future… I think we did both with the Alpha5.”

It is not the same company behind the original car

Despite its name, the DeLorean Motor Company behind the Alpha5 is not the same DeLorean Motor Company that brought the DMC DeLorean to the world in 1981, but is made up of an investment scheme. The DeLorean Motor Company of the family of the same name headed by John DeLorean it only produced around 9,000 cars at its plant in Northern Ireland and went bankrupt in 1982, before the first Back To The Future even hit cinemas… The new company has nothing to do with the family.
