The woman managed to kick the fox several times without being seriously injured
Security camera footage shows the moment a New York woman is attacked by a rabid fox twice in her own backyard.
The unidentified woman is the cousin of CBS 21 News meteorologist Ed Russo. “A cousin of mine was attacked by a rabid fox in New York. He’s fine, but this video is crazy!” he tweeted on Tuesday.
The attack, which happened on July 25 at 2:30 p.m., began when the woman left her home through her front door to talk on her phone. And while she’s standing in her yard talking, the fox sneaks up behind her and bites her fiercely on the leg.
The woman then circles, lifting one leg over the other, in an attempt to get the fox off her leg.
At one point, she appears to pick her up with her arms and slams her to the ground. The fox, however, doesn’t hold back and starts to jump on the woman before she takes a few steps back and kicks her.
The fox is still relentless in his pursuit of the woman and returns to attack. The woman tries to throw the fox away, but it appears that the animal bites her hand.
The persistent fox is then seen attacking the victim once more, before a man with a walking stick steps in and tries to beat the animal. The woman, however, manages to kick the fox once more as it tries to bite her shoe.
Eventually, someone killed her after she attacked another person in the area, according to the New York Post. The fox was then taken to a Cornell University lab, where it was confirmed to have rabies.
“It was a beautiful animal and I didn’t want to hurt it,” said the woman who was attacked. “Thank God my neighbor showed up.”
