Kerameos: Schools will open with mild measures – What will happen in case of an outbreak

by

Let’s go to as normal a school year as possible, said the Minister of Education.

Niki Kerameos gave the stamp of the intentions of the Ministry of Education for the opening of schools today.

Speaking to OPEN, the Minister of Education said that “the trend is for the softer strong mediabecause now we are back to normal”.

Regarding the protocol that will apply or the self-testing by students and teachers, Mrs. Kerameos stated that “we are going to a more normal school year as possible”, adding that “we have left the logic of systematic control, because this at this stage does not work as a large part of the population has been vaccinated or sick”.

What will happen in case of an outbreak in the classroom?

In the event that a child tests positive for the coronavirus, “the State has measures for anyone who gets sick, which is a five-day quarantine and then leaving with a mask. That’s where we move too. We will not do anything different from what happened throughout society,” said the minister.

He also assured that “we are in constant cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the experts, the EODY, as we are in a phase of coexistence with the coronavirus”, while, as he said, “throughout the pandemic the protocols have worked very well good”.

Niki Kerameos also spoke about the completion of 25,000 permanent appointments in education, as “from 2008 to 2020 not a single teacher had been appointed” but also about the innovation of expanding the opening hours of full-day schools, saying that 50% will study in 17:30 “on the one hand to strengthen public education and on the other hand to bring school hours closer to work hours”.

Be that as it may, during the coming week the first meeting of experts is expected to take place in order to have final decisions on the use or not of masks, as well as on the protocols in case of outbreaks in school classrooms.
