Kefalonia: Video-document of the car falling in the port – The 35-year-old driver is dead

The causes of the fall remain unclear. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, which remained parked at the spot for a short time at the port, overturned and fell into the sea.

An alarm was raised on Monday morning, by the Coast Guard, Fire Brigade, Police and EKAV, when a car that was in the port of Argostoli, took off and fell into the sea.

As a result, the 35-year-old driver lost his life, while the causes of the fall remain unclear.

Divers also went to the spot and the 35-year-old man was pulled out immediately, but unconscious.

The EKAV ambulance that was at the scene took the 35-year-old to the General Hospital of Kefalonia, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, which remained parked at the spot for a short time at the port, overturned and fell into the sea.

The Port Authority of Kefallinia was informed, in the morning hours today, about the fall of I.X.E. vehicle at sea, with one passenger, from ramp E/G-O/G of Lixouri – Argostoli ferry line, within the port of Argostoli.

Officials of the relevant Port Authority and a team of the Fire Service immediately rushed to the scene, while private divers recovered the unconscious 35-year-old local driver. The above was picked up by an EKAB ambulance and transported to Kefallinia General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The body is to be transferred to the Forensic Service of Patras for an autopsy. No marine pollution was detected from the incident, while the vehicle was lifted ashore by a private crane.

A preliminary investigation is carried out by the relevant Port Authority.
