As the students typically say, it is unacceptable that under the responsibility of the current government, but also of all the previous ones, the dozens of properties that are owned by universities or municipalities, are not used for the needs of students, but are rented for business use or remain unavailable. Especially this year when rents have increased dramatically, students are asking the government to solve their big housing problem.
14 student associations participate in the mobilization, while in a statement they claim:
– 300 euro monthly subsidy for all students who rent. The student housing allowance for the academic year 2021-2022 be paid immediately, to be increased to €2,000 with an expansion of the beneficiaries. Ceiling on rental prices.
– Now open the applications for the empty rooms in the hostels so that admissions can start before the start of the semester!
– Utilization of unused apartments, infrastructures owned by HEIs, of Municipalities, EFKA, but also hotel rental to meet immediate needs. No student should be left without a home! Abolition of municipal fees, reduction and ceiling on the price of electricity, inclusion of students in the PPC social tariff. Free food, transport, internet for all students.
– Abolition of Excise Tax and VAT on oil, petrol, natural gas and electricity. No power cuts to those who can’t meet exorbitant bills.
– To be covered under the responsibility of the state the expenses for the movement of the students to their place of study.
– Immediately complete the necessary procedures for to admit the students affected by the fire to the residences without other criteria and cutters.
– To be completed immediately renovation of the hearths. To utilize the property of the Foundations as well as unused buildings of the State, municipalities and regions for the creation of new centers under the responsibility of the state, without PPPs and rents
