Passports for adults and minors over 14 will now be valid for ten years instead of five
The doubling is fully implemented from today the time validity of the passports.
It is recalled that following the legislative regulation of Law 4962/2022, no. 87, the validity period of the passports of Greek citizens that will be issued from now on was modified from five (5) to ten (10) years from their issuance for the passports of adults, as well as minors who have reached the age of 14.
With this provision, Greece is now in line with international passport validity standards. This is an arrangement that, among other things, and without changing the required fixed stamp fees for citizens, is part of the Ministry’s wider planning to reduce bureaucracy, save additional uniformed personnel from processing cases, in order to be allocated to citizens’ security services , the upgrading of the services provided and the reduction, in general, of unnecessary expenses and working hours.
With the unanimous recommendation of all the competent services of the Headquarters of the Hellenic Socialist Party and the Ministry of Citizen Protection, as well as the competent department of the Legal Council of the State (N.S.K.) to which the relevant question was submitted, a substantial change is recorded both of the financial, as well as the technical parameters related to the process of awarding the supply of the “New Integrated System of Security Forms” (OPSEA). The obvious reason is that, now, the total value of the specific tender is reduced by at least 56,544,000.00 euros, with the self-evident significant financial benefit in favor of the Greek State, a fact that must be taken into account in the context of the proper management of public money.
Consequently, the service recommended to the competent Minister the cancellation of the progress of the above contract, in its entirety, with a fully reasoned decision and without the obligation to pay remuneration or compensation to the participants, as expressly provided in a relevant condition of the Invitation for Expression of Interest, a fact for which the Legal Council of the State unanimously gave an affirmative opinion.
It is noted that the Ministry of Citizen Protection is taking all the necessary procedures to ensure not only the full and timely satisfaction of our country’s International obligations, but also the acquisition of high-standard security documents that it issues in the future, fully compatible with European and International regulations.
