The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs emphasized that the beneficiaries of the PWDs have doubled compared to 2019
“We are starting this school year with more children than ever in the nursery schools, KDAP and KDAPAmeA, 32% more children than 2019 and 14% more compared to last year, they start today at the stations, holding in their hands a coupon with a 10% higher value”, said the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, responsible for Welfare and Social Solidarity, Domna Michailidouafter the announcement of the final results for the vouchers for the municipal and private nurseries.
In addition, with regard to the PWDs, the deputy minister emphasized: “At the same time, we have managed to double the beneficiaries of PWDs compared to 2019, effectively supporting disability. We strengthen pre-school education, we support the most vulnerable families”.
According to Mrs. Michailidou, with the increase in the budget from 270 million euros (2019) to 333 million euros for the period 2022-2023, more vouchers than ever – for the entire program – are given to nurseries and KDAP/KDAPAmEA.
In particular, 111,000 children are receiving vouchers at the nurseries for this year’s period 2022-2023. As stated in an announcement by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, “the corresponding number of children who received a voucher in 2019 amounted to 84,000 (a 32% increase), while in 2021 it was 97,000 (a 14% increase). Accordingly, at KDAPAmeA vouchers are received by all children with disabilities, regardless of their family’s income. Thus, this year 8,700 children join, while the corresponding number for 2019 was 4,500, an increase of almost 50%! At the same time, the same beneficiaries as the previous year are maintained in the KDAP, reaching 60,000”.
In short, the ministry Labor and Social Affairs points out that with this year’s program of nurseries, KDAP and KDAPAmeA, the following is achieved:
– More coupons than ever for the entire program: of the 155,000 coupons given out in 2019, 180,000 are given out this year (a total increase of over 16%).
– 32% increase in vouchers in nurseries compared to 2019.
– Increased income criteria for joining the nursery school program compared to 2019.
For example, the announcement highlights the following:
– A family with 2 children and an annual income of up to 33,000 euros this year receives a voucher, while in 2019 their income had to be below 27,000 euros.
– A family with 3 children and an annual income of up to 36,000 euros this year receives a voucher, while in 2019 their income had to be below 30,000 euros.
– Increased the value of the voucher in nurseries by 10%.
– Possibility of participation in the program also for women working in the public sector.
The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, said: “No child outside of nursery school. With all our actions and initiatives, the new school year starts today for the nurseries with more beneficiaries than ever before. Our main concern is to ensure that all children have access to quality preschool education. Because for us, preschool education is an essential vehicle for the growth and development of all children. We create the conditions of equal opportunities for all and we continue to strengthen as many families as we can.”
