Marches and demonstrations are being organized today in Athens and Thessaloniki in memory of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos who was murdered 13 years ago by police officer Epamineondas Korkoneas in Exarchia.
In the morning, citizens arrive at the scene of the murder and leave flowers.
A student march is organized in the center of Athens with the central slogan “the movement will say the last word, these days it belongs to Alexis”. The protesters gathered in the Propylaea and will follow a march in Parliament.
A similar gathering is planned for 6 in the afternoon.
Traffic has been stopped on the streets around the center of Athens. By order of the police, the metro station “University” is closed from 10:30 and the trains pass without stopping.
4,000 police officers are on alert. Helicopters and Drones will transmit images to the police while the university institutions will be under guard to prevent any incidents.
A procession is underway in the center of Thessaloniki by student associations that earlier gathered at the statue of Venizelos.
Students holding a large banner against the repression, shouting slogans against police arbitrariness. They reached the height of Aristotelous Square, at the junction with Mitropoleos Street and shouted slogans.
