Thessaloniki: Prosecutor’s investigation into the floods

Criminal liability for the flooding phenomena caused in the previous 24 hours in Thessalonikithe city’s District Attorney’s Office is looking for, with an investigation ordered to Fire Department Service.

The reason, according to information, was a report by the Fire Department itself to the Prosecutor’s Office about the dangers that arose both last Friday and two 24 hours later (Sunday to Monday) to people and things due to the heavy rain.

Under these circumstances, the head of the Thessaloniki First Instance Prosecutor’s Office Panagiotis Panagiotopoulos instructed the Criminal Prosecution Prosecutor Dimitris Smyrnis to carry out an urgent preliminary examination with the investigated crime of flooding, from which a danger to people and things could arise, either through negligence or by intention.

THE research it is aimed at everyone responsible and in this context the autopsy reports of the Fire Department will be presented for the incidents where it was called to be dealt with and especially those where people were at risk. The part of the cleaning of the wells is also expected to be the subject of the investigation. Investigators will be looking for answers about who is responsible for cleaning them, if there was negligence in cleaning and if there was anything that should have been done.

It should be noted that a similar investigation was ordered last year June, after another heavy downpour that had created problems and damage in the city. And that investigation was assigned to the Fire Service.
