Co-housing plans with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall
The return of the major productions and the focus on major symphonic works with the orchestra in full development is the main pursuit of State Orchestra of Thessalonikifor the new season, after the restrictions due to the pandemic, while for the first time in years it seems that “there is light” on the issue of its housing, which has plagued it since its foundation.
First appearance tomorrow, Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in Aristotelous Square, where it will be for the first time since 2014. There, in an open concert, K.O.Th. and the Thessaloniki Cultural Center commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, under the direction of the Orchestra’s artistic director, Zois Tsokanou.
Flute soloist, for the first time with K.O.T., the 25-year-old Stathis Karapanoswho excels abroad and who expressed, during today’s press conference, his impatience for tomorrow’s concert, in which together with pianist Achillea Vastor they will present, among other things, in the first pan-Hellenic performance, a transcription for flute and orchestra of “Alexis Zorbas” Ballet Suite by Mikis Theodorakis.
“Now without restrictions and in full composition, the orchestra returns even stronger, ready to present to its audience an artistic program of exceptional variety and extroversion”, emphasized Mr. Tsokanou.
The concert planned for 2/10, dedicated to the memory of the three-term artistic director of the Greek Theater of Athens, Karolos Trikolidis, has a special emotional charge, which will be conducted by his students and well-known conductors Haris Iliadis and Vladimiros Symeonidis, while in the context of the “Dimitrios » will be given on October 20 with a concert by the world-renowned film music composer, Alexandre Depla, with which this year’s event will close.
In addition to the rich program of the winter (the whole is available on the website www.tsso.gr), the chairman of the Board of Directors of ETOS/K.O.Th. Stathis Georgiadis, announced that he joined the program of the Recovery Fund plan of K.O.Th. for her appearances abroad, in Balkan cities, but also in European capitals, a program that concerns the promotion of modern Greek culture.
Co-housing with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall?
The flooded basement of the headquarters of K.O.Th. on Nikis Avenue – due to yesterday’s storm in Thessaloniki – did not allow today’s press conference to take place there, as was originally planned and finally took place at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, with which the Orchestra seems to be “bonding” more and more.
As Mr. Georgiadis announced, the Ministry of Culture and Sports has commissioned a company to prepare a techno-economic study in order to find a space inside the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, which will be the seat of the Orchestra, as the “Pallas has closed its cycle “, as noted by the people of K.O.Th.
“The space there is old, with many problems that prevent us from rehearsals and events like today’s,” said Mr. Georgiadis. The company’s findings, which are expected to be presented in September, will be examined by the YPPO and will decide on the housing future of the Orchestra.
In schools throughout the territory and collaborations with agencies
Over 65,000 students from all over Greece watched the live broadcasts of K.O.Th’s educational programs in the last season, a tally that led the people of the Orchestra to the pioneering combination of live concerts for schools in Thessaloniki with a simultaneous live connection to the schools of the whole territory.
The systematic presence of K.O.Th. outside of Thessaloniki, the orchestra’s concerts are established in Corfu and Kozani, while emphasis on collaborations, with many institutions such as the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the HANTH, the KTHBE, the Film Festival, was given by Mr. Georgiadis, with the artistic director of the MMTH Christos Galilea to add that “it is imperative that the cultural institutions of the city cooperate”.
