The serious complaint of lawyers who denounce an unnecessary attack by the MAT in the area of Exarchia and were taken to the police station in handcuffs is causing a sensation.
Dimitris Vervesos, president of the Athens Bar Association, speaking to skai.gr, describes what happened on the evening of Friday, September 2, as reported to him by the two lawyers.
As he says, returning to pick up their car, the two complainants were stopped in Arachovis and Valtetsiou by MAT police officers for a check. Although they declared their status, one of the police officers put a headlock on a lawyer, beat them and then handcuffed them to the local police station.
There – according to the complaint – one lawyer was humiliated by the police as he was asked to remove his clothes and remain naked until they checked him.
“Everything that happened is not consistent with a favorable state,” says Mr. Vervesos, who is asking for more light to be shed on the case.
On the part of the Greek police headquarters, he ordered her conducting a preliminary administrative examination about the incident.
