Schools: Students return to school – What changes will apply this year

Today the standard consecration will take place and from tomorrow, Tuesday, the regular schedule will begin.

It begins today with the established consecration of new school year for Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle School and High School students.

From tomorrow, Tuesday, the timetable starts normally.

This year, the use of a protective mask will be optional for students, teachers and other staff, as well as for visitors to school units. Unvaccinated teachers, however, continue to be required to show a negative diagnostic test. The tests should be administered once per school week, before the Tuesday up to forty-eight hours before attendance at the school unit.

Sta Kindergartens and Elementary the end of the courses will be on June 15, 2023, at High schools on May 30 and the end of the High School exams on June 15, while at High school classes will end on May 19.

The internal exams in the 3rd Lyceum will be held from May 22 to 30 and the exams in the 1st and 2nd Lyceum from May 22 to June 15.

“This school year begins full of optimism, with a creative mood and with the goal of a quality, inclusive, modern, innovative school” she emphasizes Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, in her message to students and teachers. Among other things, he points out that this year the school “will have important innovations, all designed to ensure more and better supplies for our children, a more stable and progressive working environment for our teachers and staff, an upgraded education system for everyone”.

Addressing the students, she describes that they will participate in programs, “such as the new full-day school, educational groups with objects and activities of creative employment and expression, as well as modern digital tools, such as interactive whiteboards and robotics sets, which will gradually be installed in schools throughout of the country during the school year”.

Ms. Kerameos also mentions “to the Pedagogical Consultant-Mentor, who will support and encourage each new teacher, and the Intra-School Coordinator, who will coordinate the educational work of the school unit and assist the work of the director, with the best possible staffing”.

Furthermore, he emphasizes that this year is organized earlier than ever, “since the milestone dates are already known, such as the end of the trimesters/four months and the academic year and the program of nationwide exams, for the best planning of all”.
