He was diagnosed with severe encephalitis. He is fighting to stay alive.
A 27-year-old police officer is still being treated in a comatose state in the ICU of the University Hospital of Ioannina by the Kardama Iliaswho was diagnosed with severe encephalitis.
In accordance with patrisnews, last Sunday he went to the Emergency Department of the Tower Hospital, as he was not feeling well. There he was examined by a young doctor, to whom he reported that he felt numbness in his hands and feet.
He was given some tests, but in the end he was not chosen to stay in the Hospital for observation, but was advised to return home to rest. (Without this choice being the patient’s responsibility).
Unfortunately, after returning home the situation worsened. His mother contacted their family doctor by phone, who, after speaking with the young man, informed her that it was serious encephalitis and that he had to go immediately to the General Hospital of Patras “Agios Andreas”.
The doctors of “St. Andreas” did everything to keep him alive and as it appeared their decision to intubate him immediately proved decisive, while at the same time they moved heaven and earth in order to manage to find an empty bed in an Intensive Care Unit , so that the young policeman can be treated.
Finally, the 27-year-old was transferred to the ICU of the University Hospital of Ioannina.
The parents of the 27-year-old feel grateful and wanted to thank their family doctor, the doctors of G.N.P. “Agios Andreas”, as well as the University Hospital of Ioannina, who saved their child and hope that he will recover as soon as possible.
