The fire department of Minas Gerais announced on Sunday night (11) that it had managed to control the fire in Serra do Curral – a postcard of Belo Horizonte. The flames started on Friday (9).
An estimate of the affected area has not yet been made. Brigadiers spent the early hours of Monday (12) monitoring the possibility of a resumption of fire in the region.
Drone overflights will also be carried out throughout this morning in the operation.
Over the three days, 19 firefighters and 20 brigade members worked on five fire-fighting fronts.
Two of the corporation’s Air Tractor planes were also used in the operations. The aircraft throw water over fires, mainly in points of difficult access for firefighters and brigadistas.
At least so far, no damage to public and private structures has been identified.
According to firefighters, the size of the area affected by the flames over these three days will be released later.
