The Parliament turns off the lights to save energy

By decision of the Speaker of the Parliament, the lighting on the front and sides is interrupted and only the perimeter security lighting remains.

Participating in the national effort to save energy, the external lighting of the Parliament now stops at night.

By decision of the Speaker of the Parliament, Kostas Tassoulas, the lighting on the facade and the other sides of the building is interrupted, while only the perimeter security lighting of the building will remain.

At the same time, the building’s energy upgrade program is underway, reducing energy consumption by 36%. The program started in 2019 and is in the completion phase, regarding the heating-cooling systems of the building and the electric lighting with the installation of new low-energy lighting fixtures inside the Parliament building.

The studies for the replacement of the exterior lighting have also been completed and the project is expected to be ready within 2023, while the replacement of the wooden frames with new energy frames has been completed.
