With the agreement of the prosecutor and the investigator, the seven foreigners who are said to be the people – who together with three minors – transported dozens of refugees by boat, with their final destination in Italy and were spotted on the southern coast of Heraklion, last week, were remanded in custody.

The seven arrested face the charges of deadly exposure, forming a gang, illegally transporting immigrants from abroad to Greece, third-country nationals, conspiracy for profit by two or more who acted together, from which a risk to people may arise and from which a death resulted and the charge of facilitating the transfer of immigrants from abroad to Greece of third-country nationals, by joint venture for profit by two or more jointly, from which a danger to people may arise and from which a death resulted.

The defendants, according to their lawyers, did not accept the charges and denied having anything to do with the trafficking and claimed that they had all been paid to get to Italy and there to continue their lives on better terms.
