Sakellaropoulou on Papa, Godard, Kazako and Pandermali: Their deaths mark the end of an era

by

“Their deaths mark the end of an era, bequeathing responsibility and inspiration to their successors.”

With her statement, the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou sadly says goodbye to the professor and director of the Acropolis Museum, Dimitris Pandermalis, the unique performer Irini Papas, the acclaimed actor Kostas Kazakos and the great director and screenwriter Jean-Luc Godard, underlining that “their deaths mark the end of an era, bequeathing responsibility and inspiration to their successors”.

As Mrs Sakellaropoulou points out:

“These days we say goodbye with sadness to personalities who left their mark in the field of culture, reflecting on their work, their rare contribution, their legacy. Deaths that invite us to think once more about the gifts that the deceased gave us in their fruitful journey in art and science.

Archaeologist with a vision, pioneer in highlighting excavation findings, initiator of the evocative archaeological and natural park in Dion, soul of the Acropolis Museum, one of the greatest museums in the world, brilliant teacher, Dimitris Pantermalis served Archeology in the field, with exemplary dedication and passion.

Unique performer of the ancient drama, actress with international influence, creator of the School of Athens which recently entered the National Theatre, Irini Papa not only embodied Greek beauty, but changed the image of women on the big screen, giving breadth and depth to her presence .

Kostas Kazakos, a solid figure of our theater and cinema, generous with young people, versatile, exuberant and passionate, was a fighter until the end. Lives complete, with an indelible imprint.

Together with Jean-Luc Godard, great chapter of the seventh art, they stamped, each in their own way, the second half of the twentieth century, with their spirit, freedom, daring, unconventionality, ethos. Their deaths mark the end of an era, bequeathing responsibility and inspiration to their successors.”
