“Fake doctor” trial: Acquittal of all 16 co-accused of “Dr. Kontos,” the prosecutor asked

With his suggestion to the mixed jury for acquittal of all 16 of his co-accused “Dr. Kontos” of the charges attributed to them for their involvement in the case, the district attorney, Nikolaos Paschalis, concluded his speech.

The public prosecutor, who spoke from the morning until the late afternoon, asked the judges to release all the persons surrounding the 50-year-old protagonist in the dock, and who are accused of having contributed to the criminal behavior of their co-accused – posing as a distinguished oncologist.

Most of them, the 16, whose discharge Mr. Paschalis is asking regular judges and juries, are doctors. Among them is a former minister, a doctor by profession, who is being tried in his scientific capacity, members of the board of directors of a private clinic where the so-called “top of medical science” met patients, a nun in a monastery from which the reputation of “Dr. Kontos”, as well as a herbalist.

The prosecutor asked for the release of both the 50-year-old and those involved in the case of the operation that was performed on a patient who was seriously injured after falling with a parachute, and who after the operation in question showed a deterioration and a large increase in the rate of disability that cost him the accident. The former minister is also involved in this case.

According to the prosecuting official, “Dr Kontos” must be convicted of the charges of forgery, use of a forged document, possession of a weapon and misappropriation of a monument, while for the charge of impersonating a medical profession, Mr. Paschalis considers that the criminal prosecution should be stopped for the longest period for which he is accused, due to the statute of limitations due to the passage of five years. He also requested that he be convicted of aggravated trafficking in narcotics to minors, by occupation and by continuance, and acquitted of the same offense of selling to adults.

It is recalled that with regard to the charges of life-threatening offenses against the 50-year-old, Mr. Paschalis requested the defendant guilty of six murders (including two minor children) and for five attempted murders.

“Doctor Kontos” is on trial for twelve murders and fourteen attempted murders of critically ill patients.
