Mr. Moudatsakis expressed his joy at the honor given to him by the chancellor and the university, saying that he never thought, in 2012 when he started high school and was 78 years old, that he would make it all the way to the university.

The rector of the University of Crete expressed his emotion and invited the students to see Mr. Moudatsakis as an example, in a direction that has as its center the effort for development that never ends.

Mr. Moudatsakis, as he said, moved from his village to Heraklion in 1945, having completed primary school. He learned the trade of printer and bookbinder and did not then manage to continue his studies at school.

“It was a dream come true for me. The University for me was a heavenly place” said Mr. Moudatsakis, who added that his cooperation with his fellow students was excellent.
