Its curtain opens today Special Court, for the fourth time after the post-colonization and more than thirty years since the Koskotas trial which also marked the establishment of the Special Court in the consciousness of the citizens.

The former minister is accused in the trial that begins today Dimitris Papagelopoulos, who served as Deputy Minister of Justice in SYRIZA ANEL governments and is facing accusations of breach of duty and moral complicity (that is, as an instigator) in abuse of power.

Regarding the offences for which Dimitris Papagelopoulos is being tried in the Special Court they are not relevant to the merits of the Novartis case and impeachment of politicians (Antonis Samaras, Yiannis Stournaras, Pan. Pikramenos, Evangelos Venizelos and others) but in his interventions in the work of specific prosecutorial officers. Papagelopoulos’ interventions in the work of justice are related to the complaints made against him by the former head of the Corruption Prosecution Eleni Raikou, (she was succeeded by the defendant Eleni Touloupaki), that he interfered in her work, when she had the Novartis file and asked her without evidence to send politicians to the Parliament, Georgia Tsatani, who handled the investigation of Andreas Vgenopoulos who has also died for interfering in her investigation, and also the prosecutor Panagiotis Athanasiou who handled the freezing of the accounts of the publisher of Sky Yiannis Alafouzou, before the start of the tender with the television licenses and with the aim of not being able to take part in the tender process and has denounced the Dem. Papagelopoulos for interventions in his work. Also, the complaints of the prosecutor in question concern the intervention of Papagelopoulos in order to incriminate the journalist Giorgos Papachristos without evidence.

In addition to the former minister, the former head of the Corruption Prosecution, a prosecutor, is also on the bench Eleni Touloupaki being tried for abuse of power, an offense related to her failure to send to the Parliament for the further report filed by PASoK MPs on the Novartis case against the then minister (at the time of SYRIZA ANEL) Panagiotis Kouroumplis who was Minister of Health and the deputy of Andreas Xanthos .

Dimitris Papagelopoulos is on trial as the moral perpetrator in the Touloupakis omission, according to the will of the Judicial Council of the Special Court which paved the way for the establishment of the Court based on the Ministerial Responsibility Law.

Regarding the interventions in the work of justice on the part of Papagelopoulos, all three prosecutors will be examined at the trialwho have also made the complaints, but also dozens of other witnesses for all aspects of the trial case, such as the former Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Xeni Dimitriou, politicians, such as Andreas Loverdos who made the report against Kouroumblis, as well as the publisher and journalist Kostas Vaxevanis.

The trial is expected to last a long time, as information states that a series of procedural objections will be proposed from the side of Dimitris Papagelopoulos, while the political situation will give the whole case the characteristics of a political confrontation.

It should be noted that in the trial before the Special Court the complaints of the businessman will not be heard either Samby Mioni against Papagelopoulos for incriminating him and for attempting to extort him. The relevant case was closed with the will of the Judicial Council, which did not charge the former minister Dimitris Papagelopoulos, nor the journalists investigated for the case.
