The police deny a report referring to a “temporary brake” on patrols

The University Institutions Protection Teams (OPPI) are performing their duties normally in all four University Institutions (EKPA, NTUA, OPA, AUTH) that have been designated, according to a statement from the Hellenic Police Headquarters.

The announcement follows reports that the government is withdrawing police officers from universities.

The announcement reads as follows:

“From the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police it is announced that the Protection Teams of University Institutions (OPI) are performing their duties normally in all four University Institutions (EKPA, NTUA, OPA, AUTH) that have been designated.

It is recalled that the presence of these forces on the premises of the universities is always carried out in consultation with the respective rector’s authorities, in the context of the implementation of the security plans that the Universities themselves have.

Therefore, today’s website publication referring to a “temporary brake” of the patrols of the University Institutions Protection Teams (OPI) does not correspond to reality.
