Meet Tan Tan, the only Brazilian on the list of the 100 best bars in the world

The Tan Tan bar was the only Brazilian to appear in the list of the one hundred best bars in the world. Released this Tuesday, the 7th, the result released in London shows the house in the 87th position of The World’s 50 Best Bars of 2021.

The bar, which is located in Pinheiros and is played by Thiago Bañares, did not make the list of the 50 best in the world in the annual compilation, but appeared in the complete list, which elects the top 100 addresses around the globe.

The best bar in the world, according to the ranking, remains the Londoner Connaught Bar, champion also last year. Led by Italians Agostino Perrone, Giorgio Bargiani and Maura Milia, Connaught also won the award for best bar in Europe.

Tan Tan opened its doors in 2015 in the western region of São Paulo and began its journey exploring classic drinks and recipes from Japanese bars.

“It’s very gratifying to see the work we’ve done over six years being recognized, but we know the responsibility of being the only Brazilian on the list,” says Bañares, owner of the venue.

This is not the first time that addresses in São Paulo have appeared on the list. The Guillotine was ranked 19th in 2019, for example. In the same year, SubAstor appeared in 51st, followed by Frank, who came in 91st — remembering that Frank ended its activities this week because of the closure of the Maksoud Plaza hotel, marking the end of one of the main cocktail centers in São Paulo .

Tan Tan can still appear in another ranking. The bar is awaiting nominations from the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation Spirited Awards, an American award that nominates the best cocktails on the continents and which will announce the list in February 2022. The place was ranked 12th among the best in Latin America in 2020.

At the bar, don’t miss Cantaloupe Island, which features bourbon and lemon, and the signature Tan Tan Club, made with sherry and vermouth.
