The three new Greek FDI HN (Belh@rra) frigates of the Navy acquired, today, Tuesday, September 27, names after a plenary meeting of the Supreme Naval Council.

As announced, the first of the Belh@rra frigates, built at Naval Group’s shipyard in Lorient, France, will be named “Kimon”, the second “Newarchus” and the third “Formion”.

It is recalled that the first two frigates will be delivered to the Navy in 2025, while the third in 2026.

Belharra’s features

The FDI HN frigate has continuous air and sea control capabilities and autonomy of action in support of defense and civil objectives.

It is equipped with an advanced SeaFire radar, Aster 30 anti-aircraft missiles, a 76 mm gun and a RAM 21 missile system to protect the vessel from air, land and sea. At the same time, it has Captas-4 sonar as well as MH-60R anti-submarine helicopters.

FDI HN’s “arsenal” includes Exocet missiles capable of hitting targets at a long distance, while the frigate combines a wealth of state-of-the-art technologies ensured by Naval Group’s partnerships with Thales and MBDA.
