The immediate mobilization of the police of the Alexandria Security Department, with the assistance of the police of the Veria Security Department and the DI.AS Team. of the Alexandria Police Department, resulted in the arrest of a foreign man yesterday (September 28, 2022) at noon in the area of Imathia, for phone scams against the elderly.
In particular, the aforementioned, together with his accomplices, had set up a criminal group, with the aim of perpetrating telephone fraud against mainly elderly people, under the pretext that their child was injured in a traffic accident and urgently needed money for surgery.
Using this methodology, they tried yesterday to deceive an elderly woman and extract the sum of 4,000 euros from her, but without succeeding.
From the further investigation, it emerged that in the last two months they defrauded 3 elderly people in different areas of Imathia in the same way and took from them a total of 20,750 euros, 5 golden pounds and jewelry worth 1,000 euros.
A mobile phone was found and confiscated in the arrested person’s possession.
The investigation by the police continues both for the identification of the details of his accomplices, as well as for their possible participation in other similar criminal acts.
The arrested person, with the case file filed against him, was taken to the District Attorney of Veria.
