The case concerning the complaints of the late businessman was placed on file for the second time Andreas Vgenopoulou, who had launched serious accusations against the honorary President of the Supreme Court Vasiliki Thanos.

The second investigation in a row was carried out by the Financial Prosecutor’s Office, and as it became known, with the announcement of Mrs. Thanou, its result was again in favor of archiving of the relevant folder.

The second investigation into Vgenopoulos’s complaints about illegal demands from the then President of the Supreme Court, in order to settle his criminal cases, through a third party, began on the occasion of the publication by a well-known website (iefimerida.gr) of an audio document with relevant conversations about the complaints of Vgenopoulos.

Vasiliki Thanos’ announcement in detail.

After the withdrawal from 11-05-2016 of the petition of And. Vgenopoulos, which was ordered, on 5-5-2022, by the Financial Prosecutor of Athens Chr. Bardakis and after a new investigation, conducted by the assistant Financial Prosecutor Mk. Poimenidis, the latter, with his decree number 1503/2022, decided that the complaints of A. Vgenopoulos against the President of the Supreme Court Vasiliki Thanos were not proven at all and that the above indictment must be placed on file, for a second time .

The Financial Prosecutor, in addition to the re-evaluation of all the evidence, which had already been collected and evaluated, in 2016, by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Anna Zairis, collected other data and also investigated the audio – conversation, between A. Vgenopoulos and D.M., which had been recorded, in April 2016, by the later deceased businessman himself, but without ever citing the audio in question, neither during the filing of his complaint nor later , when he was summoned and examined, as a witness, before the Prosecutor.

This audio was made public, through the internet, after a lapse of six (6) years, with the publication of the iefimerida website from 2-23-2022, without the person responsible for it ever explaining in what dark and suspicious way it came into his hands and mainly for what reason, instead of submitting the said item to the Prosecutor’s Office, as he is obliged to do, according to the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, to post it on the internet, falsely presenting that from this audio it was allegedly proven that “Thanou was blackmailing Vgenopoulos” , thereby dragging the adj. President of the Supreme Court and former Prime Minister, who served the Judiciary for 42 years, characterized by everyone as an integrity and honest Judicial Officer. The Financial Prosecutor after a thorough investigation of several months, assessing all the evidence, decided that it was not proven that the President Vasiliki Thanou sent D.M., as her messenger, to ask for compensation from the businessman And. Vgenopoulos. (It should be recalled that the investigation of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Anna Zairis, which was conducted in 2016, had reached the same conclusion).

As particularly noteworthy is the fact that the epit. President, Vassiliki Thanou, on 1/9/2022, with an application filed before the competent Financial Prosecutor, requested to be summoned and testify, again, for the now archived case, except that the Prosecutor conducting the investigation himself, considered that this was not at all necessary for the course/2nd filing of the indictment in question.

Consequently, the slanders against Vasiliki Thanou, which were contained in the publication of the above website, were completely dropped, i.e. a) that allegedly, from the audio that was made public, Thanou was blackmailing Vgenopoulos and how and how the complaints against her were proven, thus also violating the presumption of innocence, which journalists are obliged to respect, according to the rules of journalistic ethics and b) that allegedly the previous prosecutor’s order regarding archiving was negotiable as a result of collusion between Vasiliki Thanos and Anna Zairis.

The issuance of the decision, on the compensation action, which has been brought by the President of the Supreme Court ex. Vassiliki Thanou, against the manager of the above website, Christos Raptis, for insulting her personality.
