Opinion – Marcelo Katsuki: It’s almost a wedding party… All that’s missing is the bride and groom!

by

Brunch at the Cathedral has a church, priest, violinist, well-dressed people, tables set and a rich buffet with exquisite tables of sweets. All you need are the bride and groom for you to feel at a wedding! The event, which has taken place on the mezzanine floor of the Sé Cathedral since 2017, aims to maintain and preserve the church and also support the Belém Mission, a movement that offers shelter to the homeless population.

Who is responsible for the menu and curatorship of the brunch is Gil Gondim, chef and caterer with extensive experience in events. Gil owns Casa Gil Gondim Gastronomia and a rotisserie that sells pasta, sauces and frozen dishes, as well as one of the best feijoadas I’ve ever tasted. Worth knowing!

Brunch at the Cathedral starts at 12:30, right after the 11:00 am Mass. You can access the mezzanine from the side of the altar, if you are participating in the liturgical act, or from the back, where there is access through Praça João Mendes. The spacious lounges have well-assembled round tables with a capacity for up to 10 people. And the brunch works in a buffet system, with free drinks service. To add to the festive atmosphere, a violinist welcomes diners with classical music and romantic ballads.

At the buffet, more than 20 options of dishes, including a good vegetarian selection, such as Moroccan couscous, puff pastry brie, mushroom quiche and pomodoro mozzarella sorrentino. For carnivores, roasted breast in poivre sauce with glazed onions and pancetta stuffed with artisanal sausage in chimichurri sauce. The starters, salads and charcuterie also attract attention with their beautiful presentations. The ticket price (R$ 350) also includes sparkling wine, red wine, soft drinks, juice and water, all at ease. The profit is reverted to the humanitarian works and maintenance of the church.

The event continues until 4:30 pm, when it ends with a coffee after the secret tour, a tour that visits the crypt, located in the basement of the altar, the bells in the tower, the dome and the roof of the building – which requires willingness because in the path there are many stairs. It is recommended to wear low shoes.

Access to the event is safe, as there is a valet service (R$ 35) at the back of the cathedral, next to the back entrance of the church. But it is also possible to go by Metro, which has an exit right next to it. The next brunches take place on the 15th, 16th and 23rd of October. In November, on the 13th, 19th and 20th, with a dinner on the 12th with tour! Reservations must be made in advance by WhatsApp (11) 98496-9702, upon payment of a down payment.

A different and very fun program, in one of the most important postcards of the city, with music, great gastronomy and breaking, you still help two institutions.
