Discover Tan Tan, the only Brazilian on the list of the 100 best bars in the world

by

For the second year running, Tan Tan was named the best bar in the country — and one of the 100 best in the world, according to The World’s 50 Best Bars ranking. The only Brazilian to appear on the list, the bar also improved its ranking: it rose from the 87th position to the 62nd position.

The complete list was released this Tuesday, the 4th, at a ceremony in Barcelona, Spain. But the preview, from 51st to 100th, had already been released last week. Paradiso, also in Barcelona, was elected the best bar in the world, according to the ranking.

In Pinheiros, in the west of São Paulo, the place has a cocktail shop signed by chef Thiago Bañares in partnership with mixologists Alex Mesquita and Caio Carvalhaes.

Released in May, the last card was called Duality. The recipes highlight five ingredients, which feature two cocktails each: yuzu (a citrus fruit), shiso (an herb from the mint family), sesame, raspberry and tonka bean.

Recipes include the Yuzu Martini, which combines gin, liqueur sake, lemon and yuzu kosho syrup, and the Yellow Rocket, also made with gin infused with yuzu kosho, aged rum, lychee syrup and lemon. They cost R$56 and R$58, respectively. Eight signature drinks from previous menus and cocktail classics complete the house menu.

Mixed bar and restaurant, the address was opened by Bañares in 2015 with a menu of hot dishes from Asian cuisine, mainly Japanese, with emphasis on ramens. One of them is wonton, made with chicken broth seasoned with sea salt tarê, shrimp dumpling, chicken breast, egg and chives, which costs R$65.

In 2018, the house doubled in size and invested in the bar in order to give it the same notoriety as the kitchen. Since then, the address has appeared on international lists and awards — at the beginning of September, for example, it appeared at 296th in another award, the Top 500 Bars.
