Formula One drivers have been warned that they could be banned or lose all their points if they drive unsportsmanlike, FIA Director Michael Massey has said ahead of Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. last race of the year and in which the title in the drivers’ championship will be judged.

British Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton and Dutch Red Bull driver Max Ferstappen are heading to the final of the season at the Yas Marina circuit to equal the standings (each with 369.5 points), but Ferstappen will win the title in case of a tie, as he currently has more wins (9 vs. 8). The two drivers have … a vendetta, as they have clashed three times this year (including the British, Italian and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix last Sunday), raising concerns that the exciting finale of the season will end with a new clash of the two “gladiators”.

The 42-year-old Australian singled out Article 12.2.11, which refers to “any violation of the principles of justice in competition, conduct in an unsportsmanlike manner or attempt to influence the outcome of a match in a manner contrary to sporting ethics”. Massi also referred to Article 12.4.5, which covers penalties that could be imposed by match referees, which include “exclusion for one or more matches, deduction of points for the championship …”.
