Three people were arrested in the last 24 hours in Thessaloniki, for an equal number of cases of illegal transportation of persons who lack the necessary documents for their legal stay in Greek territory.

Police officers identified and arrested a 45-year-old citizen yesterday morning, as it was found that he was transporting by I.X.E. car of two foreigners, who did not have the necessary documents for their legal stay in the country. The alleged perpetrator, in order to avoid an imminent police check, sped up, while after the vehicle was stopped, he tried again, this time on foot, to escape, but he was stopped and arrested, despite the strong resistance he put up.

A few hours later, at noon, in western Thessaloniki, a 21-year-old foreigner was arrested, who transported by I.X.E. car two people who did not have the necessary legalization documents. The young man, in sight of the police, tried to escape both with the vehicle and on foot, but without success.

Moreover, in the early morning, police officers patrolling the Old E.O. Kavala-Thessalonica, a 46-year-old motorcycle driver was spotted transporting a foreigner who lacked travel documents. The investigation revealed that the machine had a fake license plate and the driver did not have a driver’s license.

At the same time, as part of investigations to identify people living illegally in the country, eight foreigners, lacking travel documents, were found in two houses in the Dendropotamos area. The investigation found that six of them entered two weeks ago from the Greek-Turkish border and stayed in the area until they were forwarded to Central European countries.
