Takis Theodorikakos, who is in Brussels for the European Union Interior Ministers’ Meeting, insisted on Athens on Thursday on the need for financing through European resources the means of preventing illegal immigration flows.
“The security of citizens and the solidarity of European states presuppose, as a common goal, the prevention and deterrence of illegal migratory flows, especially when they appear as a hybrid threat,” said the Minister of Civil Protection.
“For this reason, we firmly support the possibility of European funding for any legal means of deterrence, such as artificial fences, as well as the provision of horizontal sanctions in cases where migrants are instrumental,” he added.
