Immediately after, at 2:00 p.m., the routes will start, serving tens of thousands of workers and citizens of the city, while the beneficial consequences in terms of both traffic on the roads and parking, which is a real headache, are eagerly awaited for the area.

The three new Metro stations in Piraeus will be handed over to the passenger public, “Maniatika”, “Piraeus” and “Municipal Theatre”.

According to those in charge, with the operation of the above stations, a daily increase in total passenger traffic on the Metro network is predicted by 132,000 citizens per day, reducing both the traffic of cars. vehicles by 23,000 per day as well as carbon dioxide emissions by 120 tons per day. It is noted that the total time from the port to the airport will be covered by the Metro in just 55 minutes.

It is recalled that the extension of Metro Line 3 “Agia Marina – Piraeus” includes a 7.6 km long tunnel and 6 stations (Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikaia, Maniatika, Piraeus and Municipal Theater), as well as seven intermediate ventilation shafts. In total, Line 3 “Municipal Theater – Dukissis Placentia – Airport” now has 27 stations.

According to Attiko Metro, this is an investment of 730 million euros in areas of the Municipality of Piraeus and the Municipalities of the wider region (Nicaea, Korydallos, Agios Varvaras) which currently have severe traffic problems.

The “Piraeus” station will now be an important transportation center, since two Metro Lines (1 and 3), the Port, the Suburban Railway and the Tram are functionally connected there, thus facilitating transfers between all means of transport.

Timetables

The frequency of the routes in the section Municipal theater – Dukissis Placentias during peak hours (07.30 – 11.00 & 13:30 – 17:30) remains at 4′ and at night (22:00 – 00:20) it is reduced to 9′ out of 10 ΄. In the Airport – Municipal theater section, the frequency is set at 36′.

The first route from the Municipal Theater and Dukissis Placentia stations will start at 05:30. First services at 05:30 will start from Aegaleo and Monastiraki stations in the direction of Dukissis Plakentias and from the National Defense station in the direction of Municipal Theater. The last route (Monday – Thursday & Sunday) from the Municipal Theater will be at 23:59 and from Dukissis Placentias at 00:03.

Friday and Saturday, when the extension of operating hours applies, the last trains will depart at 01:06 from the Municipal Theater and at 01:10 from Dukissis Placentias.

Last trains from Syntagma station in all directions will depart at 00:23 (Monday – Thursday & Sunday) and at 01:30 (Friday and Saturday).

Changes to bus routes

The plan for the restructuring of the transport network that has been formulated by OASA for the interconnection of the municipalities in the areas where the new metro stations “Maniatika”, “Piraeus”, “Municipal Theatre” are located and for the possibility of new transfers, is based on reinforcements and modifications of bus lines. The reconfiguration of the lines is divided into two phases:

During the first phase, with the start of operation of the three new stations, direct interventions are foreseen, which will be evaluated after the first period of operation of the stations. Then and in a reasonable period of time, the next redesign phase will follow, which will include additional transportation arrangements, which will be required after the complete operation of Line 3, following an assessment and evaluation of the established situation in the transportation network of the wider region.

In more detail, the following interventions have been planned:

-The bus line 831 Aegaleo – Piraeus is reinforced with additional routes throughout the day.

– Bus line 810 Schistos – Korydallos is being modified into a feeder line for the “Korydallos” metro station and will be interconnected with Petrou Ralli Avenue.

– Bus line 830 Agia Varvara – Piraeus is being modified into a feeder line for the “Korydallos” metro station.

– The bus line 846 Neapoli – Nice – Piraeus is being modified into a feeder line for the “Nicaia” metro station.

– Bus line 900, which was created in the last 2 years to cover the transition period between the operation of the “Korydallos” and “Nikaia” metro stations and the 3 new stations of “Piraeus”, is abolished.

The starting points and ending points of the existing bus lines remain as they are.
