Israel: Outrage over the murder of an 18-year-old soldier – Manhunt for a 22-year-old Palestinian

Assailant shot her while at a checkpoint in Suafat – Suspect identified and wanted

Israeli security forces have launched a manhunt to locate one Palestinian who allegedly shot and killed an Israeli soldier on Saturday night in East Jerusalemagainst the background of the resurgence of violence in recent months.

Trooper Noah Lazar, 18, who served in the military, succumbed to his injuries. The gunman shot her while she was at a checkpoint in Shuafat, a Palestinian refugee camp in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem.

The perpetrator, according to the police authorities, is a 22-year-old Palestinian, a resident of East Jerusalem. He was taken by car by an accomplice to the outpost, where he opened fire on the soldiers and then fled towards the camp.

After a night of tension in Jerusalem, Israeli police today arrested four Palestinians allegedly “involved in the attack”. Their detention was extended for one week. Access to the camp has also been blocked, where investigations continue to identify the suspect. Young Palestinians threw stones at the police, according to witnesses.

Earlier on Saturday, two Palestinian teenagers, Ahmad Daraghmeh, 16, and Mahmoud al-Shous, 18, were shot dead during an Israeli army operation in the West Bank city of Jenin, where soldiers were trying to arrest a member of Islamic Jihad.
