The Ring is back today – Which vehicles are excluded

The ring is returning to Athens today and will be valid from Monday to Thursday during the hours 07:00 – 20:00 and on Friday from 07:00-15:00.

Vehicles that have their first registration after January 1, 2021 will be able to move freely. Drivers who have:

1. electric
2. made of natural gas or LPG
3. hybrid
4. Euro 6 class and at the same time emit less than 120 gr CO2. It should be noted that CO2 emissions are not related to the Euro 6 level of pollutants

How to get the traffic signal in the Ring

The owners of the vehicles belonging to the above categories can apply to receive the special free traffic sign on the Ring, through the special platform of gov.gr

To complete the process, you will need:

-your personal TAXISnet passwords
– the registration number of the vehicle
– the VAT number of the owner/company to which the vehicle belongs

As regards the holders of last year’s ring permits, the Ministry of Citizen Protection points out that a deadline of ten working days is given to renew them. Until then there will be flexibility in the checks, with the presentation of last year’s permit to enter the ring.

Who freely enter the Ring

Those who reside permanently within the Ring’s boundary may enter and leave the boundaries freely. However, a special card issued by the competent services of the municipality of Athens is required.

Also, the vehicles of doctors bearing the special badge, physiotherapists, war invalids, cars driven by or transporting disabled people or patients in need of frequent treatment are also allowed to circulate freely.

Exceptions include cars of government departments, local authorities, organizations or public utility companies with special registration numbers or with visible signs of these services, for the heads of foreign diplomatic missions, representatives of the press with a limitation per media.
